UPDATE!
New details have came out!
PIGEON FORGE (WATE) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed Sunday that one of the individuals wanted for questioning in a Campbell County murder investigation was shot and killed Saturday night by officers.
The man shot and killed Saturday night by Pigeon Forge Police was wanted for questioning about a murder in Campbell County. James Bradley Phillips, 43, and Monica Briggs, 36, had been on the run for about a week after the murder of Kenneth Koster. Both were considered armed and dangerous.
A picture of Briggs and Phillips was posted to both of their Facebook accounts Saturday night with the words, “Last pic…will love u till the end” Shortly after that post, Pigeon Forge Police tracked down the pair to a Wendy’s on the Parkway.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a confrontation happened just before 10 p.m., and officers fired at least one shot- killing Phillips. Briggs was then arrested on an unrelated charge.
Jonathan Hagins says the scene last night was tense.
“All of a sudden I see a cop come and pull up here and block off the way, and as soon as I saw that like the whole parking lot was lit up. There were so many police out there.”
Blue lights, and crowds of people all wondering what was going on.
“The scariest thing about it as far as I was concerned was the lack of information. Not knowing what was going on, not knowing what was happening. But to the same token I felt safe that police did their jobs,” Hagins said.
Robin Gaddy manages a hotel behind the Wendy’s. Like Hagins, she wishes more information was put out sooner.
“With my son being the one working night audit it was very terrifying actually to find out that it was somebody that close, that my son was that close to somebody being shot and killed. But I understand the police did their job,” Gaddy said.
TBI is investigating this incident.
While we always bring photos and video coverage of the Pigeon Forge Rod Run in Tennessee, I also thought it fitting to bring coverage of the fatal shooting that took place during the last night of Rod Run. I’ve already heard a dozen different stories and I’m sure there will be a dozen more, but to hopefully keep things straight among the automotive world anyway, I wanted to post the factual news stories here in one place. I will update this post as I find out more.
