What a week its been! Tons of posts, tons of tweets, tons of awesome cars going across the block at Barrett-Jackson, or #bja2013 as I’ve became used to calling it via Twitter! First off I have to say thanks to everyone who have taken time to read our blog posts and interact with us on Twitter @jdsmotorsports. I wasn’t one hundred percent sure how the reception would be to it but it has been very well received so look for much more auction coverage to come from Barrett-Jackson, Mecum and others this year!
Top 5 Sellers
There is lots to talk about but I guess the best place to start would be at the top! So lets look at the top sellers for the 2013 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.
5. 1934 DUESENBERG J MURPHY LWB CUSTOM BEVERLY SEDAN- $1,430,000
Beautiful car. I’m not a big fan of the early luxury cars but if I was going to buy one I’d want one that looked like this. Classic styling.
4. 1968 SHELBY EXP 500 “THE GREEN HORNET”- $1,980,000
I must have missed the update on air Saturday night but I’m assuming this car sold? It was bid to 1,800,000 but according to the top sellers list they have it listed at 1,980,000. So they must have worked out a deal after the auction. If not the most rare Shelby out there, its top three for sure.
3. 1947 TALBOT-LAGO T-26 GRAND SPORT- $2,035,000
I’m not sure I had even heard of a Talbot before this auction but I love it! This isn’t a car, its a work of art!
2. 1955 MERCEDES-BENZ 300SL GULLWING COUPE- $2,035,000
Gullwing, what a car, but not just any Gullwing, Clark Gable’s Gullwing. I knew this one would go for big money and actually at this price I’d consider it a pretty good deal. With the history this one could have easily went for more money.
1. #1 BATMOBILE The Batmobile- $4,620,000
The Batmobile, I gotta be honest, I didn’t see what the buzz was about. I figured two hundred, three hundred thousand at most. But then as the weekend went on I couldn’t help but notice how much hype surrounded the car. It was then that I had a feeling it might get up towards one millions. But when I saw the car coming out to the block I had to take a double take, it looked like Muhammad Ali was walking out for a heavyweight title fight, the crowd was unreal. It was at that moment I knew we were about to watch something special.

Charity Cars
One of the cool things about Barrett-Jackson is the amount of money that they raise for charity, check out some of the awesome charity rides that went across the block this week.
Lot 3020: 1969 Ford Bronco- Up for auction my NASCAR driver Kurt Busch and his girlfriend. This baby raised $500,000 dollars for the Armed Forces Foundation.
Lot 3030: 2012 Ford Mustang Race Car- Another charity car with NASCAR involved. This is a Rusty Wallace built race car. It sold for $200,000 dollars for the NASCAR Foundation.
Lot 3010: 1958 Chevrolet Corvette- This car was put up for auction by GM chairman and CEO David Akerson. The car brought $270,000 dollars. 100% went to Habitat For Humanity.
Lot 3011: 1953 Ford F-100- This truck was customized by Chip Foose and donated by the WD-40 company. It sold for $170,000 dollars to benefit Childhelp and the Victory Junction Gang.
Lot 3013: 2013 Shebly GT500 Ford Mustang- Really surprised this baby didn’t go for a lot more money. It brought $200,000 dollars for JDRF. I’d have to think being the last body style and year Mustang Carroll Shelby will ever have his hands on, being the fact that this is a one of, that it will be the most collectible of all the 2007 and up GT500’s. Either way it was cool to see Carroll’s grandson and Henry Ford III standing on stage together!
Lot 3014: 2012 Chevrolet COPO Camaro- Any time you here the words COPO you know big money is soon to follow. This 2012 COPO Camaro brought $400,000 dollars to benefit the American Heart Association.
Lot 3017: 2009 Ford F150- This truck belonged to former President George W. Bush. But even Jay Leno couldn’t talk it up to anything higher than $300,ooo for the Fisher House. This one was purchased by NASCAR owner Rick Hendrick with the help of NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon.
Lot 3016: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray- I knew when it was announced that this car would sell across the block at Barrett-Jackson(CLICK HERE for the article) that it would bring big money. And big money it did, $1,100,000 to be exact. It was also purchased by Rick Hendrick.

The pick of the auction
While its hard to pick just one, I had a clear favorite of this years auction. Lot 5041, a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L88. This car is just awesome, one of the best looking year Corvette’s ever in nasty race trim. This thing brought $1,100,000 dollars and went to the Rick Hendrick collection.
